The story of Henry Royall, who has just been admitted to West Point without examination, is an unanswerable argument in favor of school consolidation by means of school trucks. The school truck gave Henry an equal chance with the town boy to obtain a high school education. Equality of opportunity is a fundamental principal of a democracy. Each and every boy or girl who wants an education should have the opportunity go to through the high school at least. That is the real reason for school trucks, for it is not practicable to maintain a high school within walking distance of each home. The consolidation and truck system costs more than the old system, but under the old system a great many boys and girls did not have the chance which they longed for and which they ought to have had.
