Kittrell College Gets $750,000 from B.N. Duke

Durham, Dec. 13—Announcement of a gift of $750,000 to Kittrell College, Kittrell, N.C., by B.N. Duke of Durham and New York was made here today by J.M. Avery, secretary of the board of trustees of that institution. The money is to be expended in the erection of new buildings and the purchase of new and needed equipment during the next 12 months.

The gift announced today brings Mr. Duke’s gifts to the negro college to more than a million dollars, according to the secretary of the board.

From the front page of the Concord Times, Monday, Dec. 14, 1925. According to Wikipedia, Kittrell College was a two-year private historically black college from 1886 to 1975 in Kittrell, N.C. It was founded in association with the African Methodist Episcopal Church and was also known as Kittrell Normal and Industrial School and Kittrell Institute. After it closed, many of its facilities became the Kittrell Job Corps Center campus.
