Patrons of the Hickory Telephone Company have been informed of an increase in phone rates effective this month, with payments for phones in advance. The permission to increase rates was grated by the corporation commission recently and the raise was asked because the company, it is said, has spent a large sum of money in overhauling its system, extension of its service and building of outside lines, as well as the advanced cost of materials and operation.
The company announces that the increase in rates will be fully met by improved service.
The rate of phones per month is Business one-party line, $4; business two-party line, $3; business extension, $4; residence one-party line, $2.50; two-party line, $2; four-party line, $1.75; residence extension equipment, $1.
