Will Westmoreland Arraigned, Walter Shipp and Gen Woods Sentenced, Feb. 2, 1921

Statesville, Feb. 2—Will Westmoreland, charged with the murder of J.H. Nance, was arraigned in court yesterday. A special venire of 100 citizens of Iredell county was ordered summoned to appear in court on Thursday morning and from this number a jury will be selected. Walter Shipp, a colored boy about 16 years of age, was found guilty of assault on Loula Caldwell, a colored woman 40 years old, and was sentenced to serve 50 years in the state prison. Gen Woods, colored, plead guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced by Judge Bryson to 8 (?) years in the state prison. Woods killed Charlie Bailey, colored, at a negro dance in Shiloh township last December. From the Hickory Daily Record, February 2, 1921
