Goldsboro Loses Second City Manager in Weeks, Aug. 23, 1922

Because the board of aldermen refused to support him in his “clean-up” campaign Mayor Baine, Goldsboro’s acting city manager, has tendered his resignation. Mr. Bain declared that the whole police force is “rotten from the assistant chief down,” and he says he’s “from Missouri” as regards the board of aldermen themselves. This is the second city manager that Goldsboro has lost within the last few weeks. Must be an undesirable job.

From the editorial page of The Kinston Free Press, Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1922, H. Galt Braxton, Editor and Manager. Editorial spelled city manager’s last name as Baine and then Bain. I don’t know which is correct.
