Will Brown, 22, and William Booth, 14, Caught Red-Handed at Still, May 9, 1923

Two Boys Are Taken at Still. . . Brought Here Today and Put Under $250 Bonds Each—Still Taken by Officers and Some Beer Destroyed

Will Brown, aged 22, and William Booth, aged 14, were found at a blockade distillery early this morning about half way between Piedmont and Moore’s Springs by Deputies J.R. Nunn and P.L. Flinchum.

When found one of the young men was asleep at the still and the plant was in full operation. The officers stated that they were making corn whiskey the old-fashioned way without sugar or other adulteration.

The men and still were brought here before Justice N.A. Martin, and Brown and Booth were placed under bonds of $250 each, which they gave and returned home. The still, which was of 35 gallon capacity, was stored in the county jail.
