Two fire alarms were sounded on Saturday. At 10 o’clock in the evening a burning chimney at the residence of Will Brown on Arnette avenue called firemen out. The danger of a serious fire was curtailed and no damage resulted.
Saturday evening about 3 o’clock a burning field on North Trinity avenue called firemen out. Although the blazĂ© was outside the city limits, local firefighters went to the scene and kept the fire from spreading to dwellings.
During the past week there were only three times that the local firemen were called out. No fire loss was recorded. From page 2 of the Durham Morning Herald, Sunday, March 16, 1924
