Burlington, March 15--Charlie Kirkpatrick, a 7-year-old boy of the Alamance section, was seriously if not fatally injured Thursday afternoon by a playfellow as the two boys were returning from school.
Kirkpatrick started to cross a stream when the other boy, Robert Edwards, aged 12, told him not to go across, and, when he did so, Edwards threw a large rock at him and knocked him down in the stream and almost severed the nose from the face.
Other children saw the tragedy and rescued Kirkpatrick and he was rushed to the hospital. Late reports from his bedside are that he is in a very serious condition.
