Harvel Jones, colored, charged with hitting Charlie Sheppard, of the same hue, over the head with a billiard cue last night, was brought up for trial in the mayor’s court this morning.
Charlie was present with a sore head—mute evidence that the cue had been used effectively. The mayor heard the evidence submitted and rendered a verdict whereby Harvey was requested to pay $5 and the costs of court. Harvey managed to find the money about his person and was released.
