Mr. Joe B. Ferguson, well known citizen of Sandy Ridge, Stoke County, died at a Greensboro hospital Sunday evening. Mr. Ferguson had been a patient at the hospital for several days and was apparently so improved that a number of friends and relatives were admitted to his room during the afternoon. In the evening there was a sudden change which resulted in his death in a short time.
The funeral and interment will take place at Sandy Ridge.

Funeral of E.A. Beeson at Friendship Sunday
E.A. Beeson of Friendship, brother of W.S. Beeson of Kernersville and C.S. Beeson of this city, died Saturday at a Greensboro hospital, where he had been a patient for about four weeks. Mr. Beeson was 70 years old.
The funeral was conducted Sunday at the Friendship Methodist Church by Rev. Albert Sherrill, and the interment followed in the church graveyard.
Mr. Beeson was born in Guilford County and was a prominent farmer. He enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary B. Warren of Kernersville and Mrs. Levia B. Smith, who is residing on the Isle of Pines, West Indies; four sons, W.R. Beeson of Kernersville; L.A., P.H. and V.E. Beeson, all of Friendship.

Mrs. Elizabeth G. Sloan Passes at Greensboro
Greensboro, July 29—Mrs. Elizabeth Gretter Sloan, aged 70 years, one of the oldest residents of this city, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.J. Tinsley, yesterday morning about 6:30 o’clock. Death was due to a complication of diseases. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4:30 o’clock with services at her residence. Rev. Charles F. Myers, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Green Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Sloan was born in this city on August 13, 1842, and has resided here all her life. She watched with pride the growth of the city from year to year. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Sloan and was the daughter of Rev. John A. Gretter and Mary Winn Gretter, both Virginians, her father being a native of Richmond while her mother was a native of Charlottesville.
Rev. John A. Gretter, her father, was the first pastor of the First Presbyterian church, this city. Mrs. Sloan was a lifelong member of that church and always took an active interest in church work when health permitted her to do so.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. C.J. Tinsley, with whom she made her home, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. P.F. Duffy of Wilmington.

Nathan J. Walls Dies In Wilkes at Age of 88
Elkin, July 29—Nathan J. Walls, aged 88 years, died Thursday night at 10 o’clock at his home near Benham, Wilkes County, four miles from Elkin. He was the oldest living man in Edwards township and all of his long life had been spent in the community where he died. He had been a faithful member of the Baptist church for more than 70 years and was one of the most active supporters as long as he was able to attend upon its ordinances. The funeral will be held at the home today, conducted by Rev. Fields and Rev. Cothran, and interment will be in the family burial ground.
