Wilkesboro, July 28—Mr. Walter Pennell, son of Mr. Ben Pennell of Moravian Falls, met with a horrible death Wednesday morning about 11 o’clock when a sawmill boiler exploded, just at the time he was at work on the escapement valve. Being on the boiler accounts for the mangled condition of his body. The accident occurred near hunting Creek post office.
Mr. Pennell had been engaged in the sawmill business for many years, and was known to be one of the best saw men in the county.
There were several other persons around the mill, but none were seriously injured.
