Sheriff Grant Looking for J.T. Smith and Children, Who Were Bitten by Rabid Dog, Sept. 6, 1922

Searching Now for Man Mad Dog Bit. . . Head Brought to Sheriff Who Learns That the Canine Had Rabies

Sheriff Gant is on the search of J.T. Smith of Greene county and two children of this county whom a mad dog bit yesterday. He spent several hours telephoning without avail yesterday.

Mr. Smith came into Sheriff Grant’s office Monday with a dog’s head, declaring that the dog had bit him and two children. Sheriff Grant wrote the laboratories at Raleigh and had the dog’s head boxed up and sent there for inspection. The report came back by wire yesterday that the dog had rabies. Mr. Smith had promised to return to the sheriff’s office yesterday, but had not returned at a late hour. Sheriff Grand said he couldn’t understand why a man exhibiting a mad-dog bite would go off with a promise of coming back and then fail to come back. He further stated he would find the man if he had to go to Greene county after him.
