A.W. Price, Fred Hendrick in Car Accident Jan. 10, 1924

Auto Crash at the Square

An accident causing much excitement among the bystanders on the square but little damage to the parties involved occurred Saturday afternoon when a Cadillac driven by A.W. Price of Winston-Salem hit a Ford square amidships, denting its side and in doing so making a racturous noise. The Ford was driven by Fred Hendrick, who is foreman of the workmen building the new home of Charles Cannon on North Union Street.

Price, who was coming up Depot Street, said that he had noted the sign on “go” from a distance and failed to look at it when he came close. After he looked, the sign was changed and Hendrick proceeded to scurry across the square. The crash occurred and within a few moments, several hundred persons were gathered round to take note of the proceedings.

Both cars were driven to the Cabarrus Motor Company where the extent of the damages to Hendrick’s car was ascertained. Price’s car was uninjured. No legal action is expected to be taken since an adjustment satisfactory to all parties was made.
