Chicks from Paul Lloyd Incubator in Demand, Jan. 15, 1925

Incubator Starts. . . Already Big Demand for Chicks That It Will Hatch

Already one fifth of all the chickens the new Paul Lloyd incubator can hatch in the next 21 weeks have been sold, and this without any solicitation of the purchasers.

The first hatch was put in at the beginning of last week. This consisted of only about 500 eggs. Day before yesterday 1,000 eggs were put in. Probably the full weekly quota of 1,500 eggs will go in next Tuesday.

Twenty-one days re allowed for hatching, and the operations are timed so that the chicks will kick open their eggshells every Monday. For marketing, this is regarded by experts as better than having chicks hatch out at the end of the week.

This first week or so of operation, a particularly close watch is being kept. R.P. Harris goes out from Chapel Hill to the Lloyd farm every day or so, and he and Mr. Lloyd and the sons take the racks out and examine the eggs carefully. By means of a flashlight, they can tell whether or not the incubation is going on properly, and the bad or infertile eggs are removed from the rack. Many of those discarded are boiled and make excellent chicken food.
