Edgar Merritt Has Been Delivering Mail for 22 Years, Jan. 15, 1925

Merritt on Job 22 Years

Edgar Merritt, who delivers mail on R.F.D. Route No. 1, has completed his 22nd year on the job.

No rural free delivery carrier in the country has a longer record, for he began his rounds immediately after the passage of the law creating the system. For many years he traveled in a buggy, changing to a Ford only about eight years ago. Robert Nevil, on Route 3, has the next longest record among the carriers who go out from Chapel Hill. He began his rounds in 1904; except for one year when he was off duty because of illness he has been on the route continuously since then.
