--The condition of Mrs. Amantia Pittman, who has been sick for several days, is improved today.
--Alfred P. Page of Lumberton was among the notaries public commissioned by Governor McLean last week.
--Marshall French submitted Friday to a charge of speeding and was taxed with the costs, $10.70.
--The Woo Club will meet with Mrs. Dickson McLean Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock.
--Sign over door of a garage at Lake View, S.C.: “If Rockefeller and Henry Ford cant, How in the H--- can you expect it of me? Please don’t embarrass me by asking for credit. Strictly cash.”
--The Bright Jewels of the Chestnut Street Methodist Church, under the leadership of Miss Lula Norment, held a Bible study each afternoon last week. On Friday, the members were given a delightful lawn party.
--Mr. Everett Davis of Route 2 brought to The Robesonian office this morning twin apples grown on his farm out there. The apples were grown together and almost resembled one apple. Mr. Davis also brought an open boll of cotton plucked from a 26-acre field.
--Miss Bertha Barker recently underwent a serious operation at the Baker Sanatorium and is convalescing at the home of her father, Mr. W. P. Barker, North Elm. Mrs. S. E. Valentine of Rocky Mount, Another daughter of Mr. Barker, was a recent visitor in his home.
--Work is now in progress on putting in two 30-foot spans in the fill between the river, west of town. They are replacing a sunken part of the fill built there three years ago. Traffic over route 20 is being detoured by the Freeman Novelty Works during the course of the construction.
--Mrs. T.L. Johnson returned last week from Hickory, where she visited relatives, Asheville and other places in the western part of the State. She visited Mars Hill, where her son, Master Thomas, is attending summer school. Senator and Mrs. Johnson probably will go to the western part of the State the latter part of this week.
--Considerable improvement in the looks of the S. A. L. passenger station and freight depot has been made by the addition of coats of paint both to the inside and outside of the buildings. It is expected that a row of posts, replacing one that has been torn down, will be erected soon from the passenger station to the flower garden below the station.
--In addition to installing new fronts in his five stores, mention of which was made in The Robesonian some time ago, Mr. L. H. Caldwell is putting in new floors in all the departments and is painting the building inside and out, greatly improving its appearance. New fixtures for a millinery and ready-to-wear department are being installed upstairs in the dry goods department.
--Mr. O.C. Duncan, local manager of the Efird Department store, left Saturday for a week’s trip to New York City, the trip being one Mr. Duncan won when the Lumberton store exceeded the sales of the Albemarle store during the Efird chain sale in June. As stated in the Robesonian some time ago, Mr. Duncan also won cash prizes amounting to $100 for his sales record during the month.
