Tarboro Man Is
Wounded
Washington, Feb. 4—Among the 1,648 names issued by the War
Department for the United States, of which 29 are North Carolinians, the name of
John Austin, whose next of kin is Mrs. Ella Austin of Tarboro, appears as
slightly wounded.
The full state list is hereunder appended:
Privates Lewis S. Autry of Autreyville and William B. O’Neal
of Avon were both wounded severely.
Corporal Edward S. Fefel of Wilson was killed in action.
Musician Demps Brown of Statesville and Private Claude E.
Phillips of Boardman died of disease.
Private Rayfield Steward of Plymouth is missing in action.
Private Will Suttles of Marion was wounded to a degree
undetermined.
Privates Edgar A. Jordan of Clarendon, Oddie McCullen of
Newton Grove and Major Lewis Price of Faison were all wounded to a degree
undetermined.
Lieutenant James E. Fason of Faison and Corporals Ernest F.
Boswell of Wilson and Clinton Hill of Louisburg and Privates Allen M. Bost of
Concord, John Austin of Tarboro, James S. Greer of Hemlock were wounded
slightly.
Sergeant Manlius Orr of Charlotte, Corporal Griffin Hill of Chocowinity
and Privates William W. Green of Green Creek, David K. Keesler of Charlotte, W.G.
Joyce of White Plains, Crafford McAlrath of Asheville were all wounded to a
degree undetermined.
Lieutenant Harry J. Donnan of Asheville and Privates Frank
Fuller of Hamlet, Bradley H. Osborne of Lenoir, John Dunn of Oreeola, Charlie
Hill of Union County, Willie McMillian of Red Springs, Fitzhugh Robbins of
Lexington were all wounded slightly.
