Make Sure William B. Stainback Gets His Old Job After Release from Service, Feb. 3, 1919

From the editorial page of the Hickory Daily Record, Feb. 3, 1919

William B. Stainback of Henderson surrendered a job that paid him $3,000 a year to enter the army. He is a truck driver at Camp Wadsworth, is offered his old job back, and may not get it. The camp authorities and the war department, according to press reports, cannot see their way clear to releasing this man. Mr. Stainback may not receive his discharge by the first of March, but if his former employers will hold the place open a little longer, his friends should be able to kindle such a fire under the department as to make it so hot that those responsible can’t hold him. Of course, Mr. Stainback deserves no more consideration than other soldiers, but he is not overseas and a truck driver can be secured anywhere.
