These We Can Do
Mr. Elliot’s interview in yesterday’s Record will put forward-looking people to thinking. The program he
outlined is not difficult of attainment.
The concrete road to Brookford, as we understand the
situation, is waiting only on the working out of details. The library is in
sight, or should be with the special tax voted nearly two years ago and the
site donated by Mrs. J.W. Elliott.
The township high school at Claremont College is a
probability that has been studied by members of the Reformed church, which owns
the property and sentiment is in favor of turning over the buildings and
grounds to Hickory for a worthy purpose. Nothing could be worthier than to
locate a central high school there for the benefit of the township, and nothing
would be serving the people of Hickory township to better advantage. That surely
out to come.
A memorial to the soldiers might well take the form a fine
municipal building with an auditorium capable of seating 2,000 people. Hickory
misses many things that it needs simply because it is weak on assembly halls.
Since a new police and fire station is needed, and since the administrative
office is rented, the building would serve many useful purposes.
Record subscribers
should consider these things. If they are good, only the interest of the town
and community should be considered in their discussion. We have reached a point
where we must go forward; we cannot stand still. We must do things.
