Mrs. Mary N. Rumley, aged 74, who was struck by an extra freight train near her home at Dalton, Stokes County, died in a local hospital Friday at noon. She was hurried to this city on the passenger train arriving at 10:40 and was carried to the hospital in an ambulance. Only meager details of this accident have been obtained, but it is understood that Mrs. Rumley was walking along the track when an extra hit her. She suffered a compound fracture of the skull and was unconscious from the time she was picked up by the train crew.
Mrs. Rumley was the widow of the late John Rumley. The family has resided at Dalton for a number of years One son, J.L. Rumley, of Mt. Airy, survives.
