Charles Williams, W.E. Woolard Found Guilty, Sept. 7, 1922

Williams and Woolard Are Both Found Guilty

Two cases, in which women were the victims, were disposed of in superior court this morning.

In the case of Charles Williams, white man of Vanceboro, who was charged with seduction under promise to marry, the jury turned in a verdict of guilty this morning with a recommendation of mercy. Williams was sentenced to serve three years on the roads. It is understood that an appeal has been taken in the case.

W.E. Woolard, who faced trial for criminal intent in connection with a local white girl, entered a plea guilty of assault this morning. He was given 20 days in which to leave the county. If he is found here at the end of that period, he will be sent to the penitentiary for a term of two years.

Several minor cases were disposed of this morning.

The court devoted all of its attention yesterday to hearing the evidence in the Williams case.
