John Sloop Found Guilty of Assaulting Rev. Tom Jimison, Sept. 6, 1922

John Sloop Fined $50 and Costs

By Associated Press

Salisbury, N.C., Sept. 6—John Sloop, local post office employee, was found guilty of an assault on Rev. Tom C. Jimison, pastor of the Central Methodist Church of Spencer and moral leader of the Spencer striking shopmen, and fined $50 and costs by Judge T.G. Furr in county court this morning.

No disorder occurred at the trial, although hundreds of persons crowded the court room. Both the prosecuting witness and the defendant took the stand.

Mr. Jimison was attacked on main street of this city August 21 and badly bruised by Sloop, who explained that “he was tired of Jimison’s abusing people.”
