Since Viola Foggie Didn't Have Enough Liquor for Local Charges, Federal Charges Sought, Sept. 4, 1922

Escaped County Court, May Land in Federal

Viola Foggie, a young negro woman, was arrested Saturday night in the Dorsett town section of Spencer by Sheriff Krider and Deputy Rankin during the progress of a big dance at her house, after the place had been searched and a pint and about a half of liquor found, one bottle locked in a trunk and another hidden in the stove. She was charged with having whiskey for the purpose of sale but the court found that there was not sufficient evidence to convict and the case was dismissed. The indictment was under a state statute.

However, there is a federal statute prohibiting the possession of blockade liquor in any quantity and the confiscated liquor has been turned over to Federal Prohibition Director R.A. Kohloss and a federal case may develop against Viola as a result of this latest move.
