Mrs. Ammons Shares Lumber Bridge News, Jan. 19, 1925

Lumber Bridge News. . . Mrs. W.E. Marley Entertains—Miss Margaret McLean Suffers Severe Burns—Appointment of Deputy Pittman Pleases—Roads Are Getting Bad

By Mrs. C.J. Ammons

Lumber Bridge, Jan. 16—Mrs. W.E. Marley delightfully entertained the school faculty and a few friends Tuesday night. Those present were Messrs. N.H.G. Balfou, L.H. Fogleman, Ernest McGougan, Ben Williford, Grady Marley, issues Selma Watt, Alberta Butler, Mayme Long, Marie Rice, Lena Marley and Ushler Balfou.

We were sorry to learn of the accident to little Margaret McLean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.S. McLean, when she turned boiling water over and burned herself very badly.

Sheriff McMillan spent last Thursday here collecting taxes.

Mr. Frank Tolar spent a few days last week in Raleigh, returning by way of Greensboro on business. While in Greensboro he called on his sister Miss Thelma, who is a student at N.C.C.W. Her many friends here were delighted to hear from her.

Lumber Bridge people were delighted with the appointment of Mr. J.F. Pittman as deputy sheriff by Sheriff McMillan. Mr. Pittman has served as town police here for several years and is well fitted for the duties of a deputy.

Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Pittman and children of Fayetteville spent last Tuesday here visiting Mrs. Pittman’s parents.

The condition of Mrs. C.M. Usher, who has been seriously ill, remains the same.

Mr. A.J. Marley has been real sick.

Roads in this section are getting bad on account of so much rain. Traveling is almost a problem.
