Newest Erwin Mill Completed, Jan. 5, 1925

Newest Erwin Mill Has Been Completed

Duke, Jan. 3—The year just closed witnessed the biggest building program that Duke has ever seen before in all its history. Many new buildings, some of which cost thousands of dollars, have gone up in the past year. The newest Erwin Cotton Mill, which is located here, has turned over to its owners on the last day of the year. This mill will have 35,000 spindles when the machinery is installed, and will turn out thousands of yards of denims every day. This mill, together with the old mill, will make a total of 70,000 spindles operating in this purely industrial town and furthermore, will add at least 2,000 more to the population estimated at 2,500.

From page 6 of the Concord Daily Tribune, Monday, Jan. 5, 1925. In 1926 the name of the town of Duke became Erwin.
