Fewer Wasps, Snakes on West Albemarle Farm, Says Harkey, Oct. 15, 1926

Wasp Nests and Snakes Scarce

Stanly News-Herald

M.[Mr.?] D. F. Harkey of West Albemarle, who is nearing his 80th birthday, stated to The News-Herald reporter that he had been mowing hay and grass now every day during the last five weeks. During the entire five weeks he has failed to see a single wasp nest or even a wasp, whereas heretofore in mowing hay he always had many wasps to contend with. Also, he failed to discover but one snake, whereas in his past experience he has always had many snakes to deal with.

Mr. Harkey, besides being a Confederate veteran who fought through the Civil War with honor, is also one of Stanly County’s best men.
