Will Walker of near Ellenboro, who is charged with handling whiskey, was arrested yesterday morning at his home by Rural Policeman McKenny and taken to the Rutherfordton jail. Walker put up a spirited fight Tuesday evening when Deputy Sheriff John Lee and a Mr. Davis tried to arrest him. The officers found him driving in a buggy near Concord church, and when they attempted to arrest him, he opened fire on them, and a battle ensued. Walker finally made his escape, but not until after his horse had received a shot from one of the officers’ pistols.
