Wesley Carraway, a colored drayman, lost a horse and had his cart more or less damaged, and Jack Casey, white, received a painful cut on his head and had his automobile damaged as a result of a collision on the Kinston Highway near the city limits on Friday night.
Casey and the drayman were coming toward Goldsboro, at the time of the crash occurred near the city limits, the car, it is alleged, striking the wagon from the rear and throwing this against the horse. The animal was later shot to put it out of its misery. Mr. Casey was taken to a local hospital to have his injury dressed.
From the front page of the Sunday Goldsboro News, October 12, 1924. A drayman was the driver of a dray, a low flatbed wagon without sides.
