Mrs. S.J. Phillips was the recipient of Halloween surprise party given in honor of her birthday Friday night at her home on Pollock street by the members of the Ladies Aid Society of the Tabernacle Baptist church of which for many years she was a faithful president.
Over 30 ladies were present to surprise the honoree with numerous and useful gifts. The evening passed pleasantly with the playing old old-fashioned games and the serving of fruit and home-made candy. Before the guests departed, Mrs. Phillips tried to show her deep appreciation and enjoyment of the event by feelingly thanking them collectively and individually for their thoughtfulness and kindness.
