Mr. H.T. Perkins of Virgilina, Va., is in the Thompson hospital suffering with injuries which may prove fatal, and Carl Webster of Fairmont is at large under $1,000 bond as the result of an automobile wreck which occurred yesterday afternoon on the sharp curve 3 miles this side of Pembroke on highway No. 20.
W.O. Perry and Cecil Ahsley of Fairmont, who were riding with Webster at the time of the accident, are out under $100 bonds on charges of being drunk. S.E. Daniels, giving Florida as his home, and who was also with Webster, couldn’t make bond and is in jail here. Pete Ross, machine operator at the Pastime theatre, who was riding with Perkins is suffering from slight injuries.
According to the officers, Perkins was driving one of the cars and Webster the other, and a race had been going on for some time when the accident occurred according to a statement made by Webster. In taking the curve, the rear wheel of the car driven by Webster struck the front wheel of the other car, turning the car with Perkins and Ross over several times.
Unless complications set in, Perkins is expected to win in his battle for life, although his injuries are very serious. He is a member of the construction force erecting the county home.
