Two Grass Fires, Oct. 24, 1924

Two Grass Fires

Shortly before 2 o’clock Friday afternoon a short blast of the siren called the boys of the Fire Company to a grass fire in the rear of the Scarboro cottage on Bennett street, and residents of that pleasant, if noisy thoroughfare, dashed forth and seeing smoke arising behind the jail, homes rose in their hearts that at last this far famed structure was going up in a burst of glory, but as usual, the boys were prompt and I five minutes it was all over, the antique not even smudged. Responding to this alarm were Chief Cameron, Walter Blue, R.W. Tate, Frank Viall, Rufe Chatfield, Wesley Viall, Gilliland and Crane.

Early Sunday afternoon the alarm was again sounded and a telephone message announced that the brush at the rear of the Mid Pines Club House was in flames and the boys made a record run only to find a small grass and brush fire way in the rear of the club house.
