Law Shuts Down Nine Stills in Two Days, Oct. 26, 1924

Beaufort County Dry Agents Bag Nine Illicit Stills

Kinston, Oct. 25—Beaufort county prohibition sleuths are reported to have raided nine moonshine stills in two days’ time in one township. Four wrecked in one 24-hour period and five in the succeeding 24 hours. Eight of the plants were idle. All ranged in capacity from 65 to 125 gallons. A nominal quantity of the beer was poured off. No arrests were made at any of the stills. Four officers participated in the raids. The number of seizures established a record. All the plants were in close proximity to the town of Washington.
