J.B. Hooks to Head Annual Fundraiser for Red Cross, Oct. 12, 1924

J.B. Hooks to Head Red Cross Roll Call in Wayne County. . . Red Cross Work in Wayne to be Well Financed in 1925. . . Mr. J.B. Hooks, Well Known All Over the County, Will Head the Work to be Done; Will be Given Able Assistance by Many Interested in Activities of Organization; to Organize in Every Community

The fact that Mr. J.B. Hooks has accepted the chairmanship of the Eighth Red Cross Roll Call assures that Red Cross work in Wayne County for 1925 will be more than adequately ?.

Not since the war has Red Cross been so much in the limelight as now, for the recent passage of the bonus bill brought the added task of assisting all ex-service men to file the proper papers, and Wayne County’s Red Cross efficient executive, Miss Louise Harlow, has facing her the stupendous task of preparing claims for all of the 1,700 veterans who have not yet filed them.

It is a recognized fact that three-fourths of the ex-service men who opt for Red Cross assistance are at rental living outside Goldsboro ownship(?) hence it is felt that the county at large should contribute its share and it is a foregone conclusion that Mr. Hooks will work with this end in view. There is nowhere in Wayne county a man better known and more genuinely esteemed for his ability and genial personality than Mr. Hooks, who, though originally from the Fremont section, has lived in Goldsboro during his excellent service as clerk of the Superior court and juvenile Court Judge.

To Organize Fully

Mr. Hooks will organize the campaign in every township. Goldsboro, which has always liberally given in quota, will be under the direction of Mrs. R.B. Miller. Mrs. Louise Harlow will ask assistance of the local newspaper in giving publicity to the Roll Call and Mr. W.W. Rivers and his troops of Boy Scouts will put up posters and assist in many other ways throughout the county.

Miss McNeill Aides

Miss Allie McNeill, field representative of the Southern Division of the American Red Cross has been in the city for several days to assist in organizing the Eighth Roll Call, which will be held all over the country November 11-27, Armistice Day to Thanksgiving.
