Raleigh—The old blind institution, corner of North McDowell and West Jones streets, is soon to be vacated and Governor Morrison has suggested that the State Board of Agriculture take over and occupy the building instead of constructing a new one of the present site on the north side of capital square. But Major Graham, the Commissioner, and members of the Board have decided to have what they have been contending for and a handsome home will adorn the corner of Halifax and East Edenton Streets in due course. Besides housing the Commissioner and his staff there is to be 20 committee rooms for the General Assembly and space for other State departments now occupying rented buildings in various sections of the city. Three hundred and twenty-five thousand dollars is now available for the purpose, if State bonds can be placed. In the event a greater sum shall be needed in carrying the work to completion, it can be taken care of by the next session of the General Assembly.
Maj. Graham takes the position that a building which is inadequate for the care of blind people certainly should not be wished off on those with good eyes.
