Police, Miners Using Machine Guns On Each Other, May 18, 1921

THE FIGHT IN THE MOUNTAINS

The strike between the strikers and the police force in the Tug River valley between West Virginia and Kentucky has been very bitter and many persons on each side have either been killed or wounded. They used machine guns on each side and it has been dangerous to ride the Norfolk and Western trains at times when the battles were raging. The valley is filled with mining huts for miles along the railroad and there has never been a very friendly feeling between the miners and the people in charge of them. Some say one side is at fault and some say that the other is wrong. Still others say that both sides are at fault. But the situation is serious, nevertheless.
