Fire broke out in the Carolina and Yadkin River Railroad main office at High Point at 11 o’clock last night and after destroying this structure swept through three other small buildings, burned five residences to the ground and badly damaged another, and destroyed five box cars and did damage estimated this morning in the neighborhood of $200,000 or $250,000.
At 1 o’clock this morning the fire continued to burn, but firemen said they had it well in hand. The origin is unknown.
When first discovered the flames were breaking out of the roof of the railroad office. The flames spread rapidly through the building and swept on to five box cars standing on the tracks nearby. All five were completely burned. One was loaded with automobiles. From the station the flames leaped to other buildings. E.K. Ingram’s cattle barn was destroyed by the cattle were saved.
