Jersey Cattle Breeders Meet Today

Iredell County farmers, who are interested in the breeding of Jersey cattle, will meet Thursday, August 7, in the grove at Mr. H.R. Cowles place, Front street, Statesville. In addition to breeders in Iredell county, there will be many farmers who are interested in better cattle, also a number of breeders from other counties. delegations are expected from Catawba, Mecklenburg, Rowan and Forsyth Counties. The program will begin with a free moving picture at the Crescent Theater at 11 o’clock. At this time two pictures will be shown. First, a two reel picture entitled “Hearts and Jerseys” and second, a one real picture entitled “Famous Jerseys.” Immediately after the showing of this picture, a picnic dinner will be spread in the Cowles Grove. Immediately after dinner, a Jersey program will be rendered. This will include short talks by Mr. R.E. McDowell of Mecklenburg county, President of the North Carolina Jersey Cattle Club, Prof. R.H. Ruffner, State College, Secretary of State Cattle Club, and J.A. Arey of Dairy Extension Office, will give demonstrations in judging and selecting Jersey cattle.

Mrs. Charles Oliver, Field Representative of the American Jersey Cattle Association is expected to be present.

It is the purpose of the local Jersey breeders to organize a live working Jersey Club in this county, to promote interest in better cattle. All interested farmers are invited to attend and are asked to bring their families with a well filled dinner basket.
