Winston-Salem, Aug. 2—J.H. Vaughn, a well known merchant of east Winston-Salem, was shot and killed about 11 o’clock here tonight as he was entering his whom after having closed his place of business for the day. Mr. Vaughn was 52 years old and leaves a widow and one child. Robbery is said to have been the motive.
Police say a negro was seen fleeing from the home immediately following the shooting and that they are in possession of an automatic pistol as well as part of a sweater said to have been lost by the supposed assailant as he made a hasty getaway.
