“One out of seven couples is now divorced” is the statement of Dr. Christian F. Reisner of New York in a recent address at Lake Junaluska. No wonder, if you could only see some when they take the marriage vow.
The writer saw a couple married the other day and when the preacher came to the point where the man says “I will,” the boy looked over at some of his companions and winked and sniggered. And the same when the point in the ceremony was reached for the girl to say the solemn words she, too, sniggered and laughed.
What can be expected to come to people who take such a serious matter so lightly? And the preacher who performed the ceremony said that it was a frequent thing when this portion of the ceremony was reached.
There will continue to be divorce cases, and they will increase as long as people take it so slightly.
