L.C. Fisher, 22, Drowned, Two Others Injured in Carolina Beach Waves, Aug. 21, 1926

Huge Wave Kills One and Injures Two Others. . . Wave Caught Some Three Score Bathers at Carolina Beach

Wilmington, N.C., Aug. 21 (AP)—A huge wave which swept over some tree score bathers at Carolina Beach today caused the death of one man and almost claimed the lives of two others.

L. C. Fisher, 22, of near Winston-Salem, was drowned, and Thos. Mitchell of Greensboro was brought ashore in a serious condition. Mrs. F. H. Read of Baltimore was the other victim and was rescued after apparently giving up hope of reaching shore.

Spectators said Fisher was washed out to sea while his brothers were making an effort to save him and lifeguard were making the rescue of Mrs. Brady and Mitchell. A large number of bathers were on the beach when the wave swept in.
