Wilson, Aug. 24—Alvestus Ayers is being held without bond, charged with the slaying of his 30-year-old wife, Bertha Ayers, and her 55-year-old father, William D. Starling, pending a coroner’s inquest into a double murder here early this morning.
Ayers had threatened to kill some one all day yesterday, it is said, and after going to bed early last night, he arose shortly before midnight, got his gun and at 12:10 o’clock this morning mortally shot his wife and father-in-law.
Immediately after the shooting, police rushed the victims to a local hospital, but emergency operations proved fruitless and they died shortly after.
The shooting took place at the Starling home.
