Williams’ Sons Held in State? Sheriff of Onslow County Believes Two Prisoners are Georgia Fugitives

Wilmington, May 7—Marvin and Le Roy Williams, sons of John S. Williams, who was convicted of peonage and murder in Jasper county, Georgia, some weeks ago and yesterday refused a new trial and who faces a life sentence in the Georgia state prison, are believed to be held in custody of John R. Gurganus, sheriff of Onslow county, it was learned there tonight. Jacksonville, the county seat, is a little town of 500 people, 50 miles north of this city.

The two men were arrested some days ago on suspicion and, when arrested, were found to each carry a pistol and one of them is reported to have been equipped with a pair of handcuffs. A charge of carrying concealed weapons was lodged against them and they are being held for superior court on these charges but, meantime, Sheriff Gurganis is making an investigation and has taken the matter up with Georgia authorities. The two men are wanted on charges of peonage and murder, having been indicted by a Jasper county grand jury.
