As this issue of the Citizen goes into the mail boxes of subscribers the new postmaster, Mr. John N. Powell, will once again be in charge of this important institution of our town. During the eight years passing since Mr. Powell held the office, Southern Pines has more than doubled its permanent population, distributing nearly as much mail during the summer months, the so-called dull season, as was formerly handled during the prosperous winter months when all the hotels and cottages were crowded with tourists.
With the influx of winter guests, the business of the office not only triples, but quadruples, and the shifting addresses of tourists seeking new quarters keep the clerks ever on the alert while the constantly increasing business of the parcel-post division calls for a larger staff than ever before.
To fill this exacting position, Mr. Powell has patience, tact and ability and personal acquaintance, all of which will go far to insure a prompt and courteous service to the business men, hotel guests, cottagers and tourists patronizing the office, now the most important in Moore County.
The Citizen does not hesitate to reassure its readers that Mr. Powell will use every endeavor in his power to facilitate the delivery and departure of mail nor spare any effort to increase the standing of the Southern Pines Post office.
