Local News Briefs in The Robesonian, Aug. 4, 1924

Items of Local News

--Regular communication St. Alban’s Lodge No. 114, A.F. & A.M., tomorrow night Third degree work. --License has been issued for the marriage of Mrs. Marie A. Little and Mr. Robert E. McLeod, both of Fayetteville.

--The board of county commissioners and county road board are holding their regular monthly meetings in the court house here today.

--Mrs. J. Rizk has returned to her home in Laurinburg after having undergone special treatment for the past few weeks at Baker sanatorium.

--Mr. Harry Caddell of Maxton Rt. 3 was a Lumberton visitor Friday. He shipped a carload of watermelons Thursday, but the crop of melons he got off of 11 acres is short.

--The last regular meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary for the fiscal year will be held Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.V.G. Wishart, Sixth street. Good attendance desired.

--Mr. J.N. Cox of Lumberton visited the peach show at Hamlet Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and was greatly impressed with the beautiful display of peaches and the wonderful peach orchards nearby, some of which he visited both afternoons. Mr. Cox brought home some of the luscious fruit.

--Dr. C.T. Johnson returned Thursday to his home in Red Springs after having undergone an operation for appendicitis at the Baker sanatorium. Mrs. E.J. Waddell of Fair Bluff left the sanatorium yesterday following and operation several days ago. Mrs. Effie Horn of Dillon, S.C., who also underwent an operation at the sanatorium several days ago, has returned to her home.

--Rev. T. McM. Grant, pastor of Chestnut Street Methodist church, announced yesterday that he had changed his vacation plans and would be absent the next two Sundays, instead of deferring his vacation until September, according to his first plans. He and Mrs. Grant and their small daughter left this morning for Kinston, where they will visit at the home of Mrs. Grant’s people, and later they will visit relatives in Gates county.

--Mr. J.M. Hutchison has resigned as manager of the North State Drug company to assume the management of the White pharmacy in Chester, S.C., which he bought Friday. His resignation is to take effect as soon as another manager can be secured for the drug store here, and he expected to move to Chester during the next few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Hutchison have made many friends who will regret to learn of their decision to leave. Mrs. Hutchinson is visiting friends and relatives in Fort Mill and Rock Hill, S.C., but will return to Lumberton during the next few days.
