The Chowan River bridge at Winton will be opened and dedicated on Thursday, May 28. Thousands of visitors will attend; many are coming from Virginia, including representatives from the highway department of that State. Col. E.E. Holland of Suffolk will be one of the speakers.
Hon. Frank Page, chairman of the State Highway Commission, W.A. Hart, commissioner from the first district, Lindsay C. Warren, congressman from this district, and several others will also speak.
The bridge takes the place of a ferry, which has been in operation for more than 200 years, and is the first bridge to be built across the Chowan River in this State. The bridge is 253 yards long. The contract price for the bridge, complete, was $148,133.66. it required 13 months to build the structure.
