Hickory, May 27—Roscoe Rowe, negro youth aged about 14, was drowned Sunday afternoon at the baptizing place about one mile northwest of Brookford. Rowe, in company with several other youths, had gone in for a swim and ventured out into a swift current. He cried for help and the boys went to his rescue but too late. The boys reported the drowning at once and a party of searchers immediately set to work to recover his body. His body was recovered several hours later by Clinton Cilley, who brought him ashore.
