Bostic, R-4, May 4—Monday morning, April 20th, between the hours of midnight and day light the death angel very quietly entered our community and claimed Mr. Charles Henderson Lewis. Mr. Lewis had been in poor health for some time. But seemed as well as usual on Sunday evening and was alive at midnight, but was found dead in his bed early Monday morning by his son, Mr. Tom Lewis, with whom he made his home.
Mr. Lewis was born Oct. 4, 1843, age 81 years, 6 months and 16 days. In 1864 he was united in marriage to Miss Mandy Jones, who preceded him to the grave 16 years ago, the 18th of April. To this union one son, Mr. Thomas Lewis, was born, who survived his father.
Mr. Lewis was a Confederate soldier and many years ago was ordained as a Baptist Minister. He will be greatly missed in our community. His body was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon in Fellowship church. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Albert Hutson.
On Sunday, April 19th, about 150 relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. Duffie McCurry and celebrated his 78th birthday. A good dinner was enjoyed. All of his children except one, Mrs. Deck Davis, were present.
Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Hunt of Clover, S.C., and Mrs. M.M. Proctor and daughter, Miss Belle, of Forest City, visited at the home of their uncle and brother, Mr. W.T. Brandle last week. Mr. Hunt preached at Fairview Baptist church on Friday night. His sermon was enjoyed.
