Erastus Newsom, colored, was not used to the hand-shift gears of the Nash he had secured in a trade, for he had for years manned a Ford. The result was that he drove his car into that of Dr. Poole, local dentist, on the Kinston road. This further unnerved him and he drove half a mile down the road and into a ditch, which effectively stopped him. Now Erastus will have to settle things with Mayor Porter Monday.
