Lt. Luke Lamb Recovering From Pneumonia, to Join Judge Advocate Department in France, 1918

Luke Lamb has been appointed to go to France as 2^nd. Lieutenant Army Service Corps in the Judge Advocate Department. He is now at Syracuse, N.Y., having been very ill with pneumonia and is slowly recovering. His brother, Wilson G. Lamb Jr., is with him.

Mr. Lamb has many close friends in town and county who will be glad to learn of his appointment.

John Mizell, Ernest Hyman Killed in France Sept. 30, 1918

John Mizell, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Mizell, died in France Sept. 30^th from wounded received in action.

Mrs. Jane Hyman of Goose Nest Township received information from the War Department saying that her son, Ernest Hyman, had been killed in action in France on Sept. 30^th.

These are the second and third Martin County boys to be killed on or around that date.

Purvis and Ambrose Among Soldiers Wounded in France, 1918

News has been received by relatives saying that Sargeant Whit Purvis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jule Purvis, had been badly wounded in the right shoulder and is in an Australian hospital located in Belgium, but hopes to be transferred soon to England and from there probably to America.

Mr. J.T. Ambrose was notified by the war department that his son, Mr. Jesse Ambrose, had been slightly wounded in action.

We regret very much to hear of these two young men being wounded. They were well known in town and county and had a great number of friends who sympathize with the boys and loved ones in their hours of uncertainty and suspense.
