Eyes Injured When Auto Tire Bursts

Shellie Smith, young white man of East Albemarle, suffered an accident Monday morning about 9:30 o’clock that came near resulting in the loss of both eyes, when the automobile tire he was pumping air into with a hand pump burst in his face.

He was at a local garage pumping air into the tire at the time. He was unable to see until about 11 o’clock Monday morning.

Mr. Smith’s eyes are still paining him, and he is under the care of a physician. It is not expected that he will be able to use them any more for several weeks.
